Masonry contractor services in Chino, CA

Classic Chino Concrete and Masonry is a masonry contractor in Chino, CA, offering 16 services in brick, block, stone and concrete, from a cracked chimney to a new paver driveway. On a repair, the price mostly turns on how far the damage runs, what's causing it and how hard your old brick and mortar are to match. On new work, it's the size, the material and how easy the spot is to reach. The schedule depends mostly on whether the job needs a permit and city inspections. I write you a free on-site estimate, so you see the figure for your own job before you decide.

Foundation repair

We look at where a crack starts and which way it runs before we patch anything, since a crack in a foundation wall usually tells you what's moving.

Chimney repair

Loose bricks, cracked caps and crumbling joints near the roofline are the usual calls. We rebuild only what's failed and match the brick and mortar to the rest of the chimney.

Tuckpointing

Tuckpointing means grinding out worn mortar joints and packing in fresh mortar. We mix it to match your old joints in color and softness, so the brick isn't what cracks.

Brick repair

When bricks are cracked, chipped or flaking at the face, we cut out the bad ones and set replacements matched to your wall's size, color and texture.

Driveway pavers

A paver driveway is only as good as what's under it, so most of our work is digging out and packing a firm base before the first paver goes down.

Retaining wall construction

Retaining walls hold back soil on a sloped yard, and the drainage behind the wall matters as much as the block. We plan the footing and drain before stacking anything.

Large rectangular concrete slabs form a walkway through bright green lawn in a fenced backyard.

Masonry restoration

Older brick and stone often has years left in it. We clean, repoint and replace only what's failed, so you keep as much of the original masonry as possible.

Fireplace installation

We build brick and stone fireplaces and surrounds, indoors or out, following the firebox or insert maker's instructions. We check with the city's building office about a permit first.

Stone veneer installation

Stone veneer is a thin layer of real or manufactured stone set over a wall, giving a house front, column or fireplace a stone look without a full stone wall.

Concrete block walls

Block walls are the usual choice for property lines and privacy around here. We set them on a proper footing, with steel and grout where the wall needs it.

Foundation block wall installation

A foundation block wall carries an addition, garage or raised floor above it. We lay it level, square and to the plans, since everything built on top depends on it.

Outdoor kitchen masonry

We build the block or stone base for a grill, counter, sink or pizza oven, sized around the appliances you've picked so the openings fit when they arrive.

Walkway construction

Brick wall installation

New brick garden walls, planters and mailbox columns, laid in the brick and joint style you pick. If it sits near older brick on your house, we look for a close match.

Broad natural stone steps wind through a landscaped garden with gravel beds and a black metal fence.

Stone masonry

Natural stone walls, steps, columns and borders, set in mortar or stacked dry. Each stone is fitted by hand, so it's slower than block and no two walls look alike.

Brick pointing

Pointing fills joints that have worn shallow or gone sandy, before water gets behind the brick. It's often smaller than you'd expect, and we'll say when spot work will do.

How we handle a masonry job in Chino

I grew up on a farm where you fixed what broke yourself, and I still want to know why something failed before I touch it. I learned masonry on other masons' crews and started this business in Chino in 2017. We're best known for the repairs that take some figuring, like cracked walls, worn joints and tired chimneys.

Brick and stone have a lot of life in them if you treat them right, so I'd rather fix the real problem than cover it with a rushed patch. You can read more about how we work, or call (909) 479-6261 and I'll come take a look.

  • We find out why it failed

A crack or a loose brick is usually a symptom. We work out what made it fail before we fix it, so you pay for a repair aimed at the cause.

  • New mortar matched to old brick

We match the mortar's color and hardness and the brick or stone to what's already on your house, so the repair blends in and works with the old masonry.

  • Straight talk on the size of the job

If a smaller repair will do the job, I'll say so, even when it's less work for us. Sometimes the honest answer is that your wall needs less than you feared.

Masonry questions from Chino homeowners

Here are answers to the questions we hear most about permits, licenses and masonry repair in Chino and the cities nearby.

Do I need a permit for masonry work in Chino, CA?

It depends on the job, so ask the city before work starts. Chino's Building Division issues permits for all building work except what the state codes exempt, and it advises calling to find out whether your project needs one. When a job needs a permit, we apply for it and plan the work around the city's inspections.

How long does a building permit last in Chino?

The city's older permit FAQ says a permit expires 180 days after it's issued, or 180 days after work stops or is abandoned. The building official can grant one 180-day extension at no cost if a letter giving the reason arrives before it expires, so it's worth starting soon after the permit is issued.

Does an out-of-town contractor need a Chino business license?

Yes. The city requires anyone doing business in Chino to hold a city business license, and that includes contractors and servicemen from out of town. A city license is good for one year, so it's fair to ask a contractor whether theirs is current.

When does a contractor need a California state license?

The state licensing board says anyone who builds or alters a structure in California needs its license when the job needs a building permit, uses any additional workers, or costs $1,000 or more in labor and materials, counted across one or more contracts. We're licensed and insured for the masonry work we do.

How do you figure out why my brick wall or chimney is cracking?

I start by looking closely and asking questions, because where a crack runs, whether the joints or the bricks are failing, and when you first noticed it usually point to the cause. Sometimes we only know for sure once a section is opened up. Then the estimate covers a fix for that cause, not just the crack you can see.

Can you match new mortar to my old brick?

Usually, yes, and it's a big part of how we repair older masonry. We match the mortar's color and hardness and look for brick or stone close to yours, because mortar that's harder than the old brick can make the brick around it crack.

Is it better to repair or rebuild a damaged brick wall?

A repair is usually the better choice if the brick itself is still sound and the cause can be fixed. Rebuilding makes sense when the wall is leaning, the footing has failed or most of the brick is crumbling. I'll walk you through what I see on your wall and why I'd go one way or the other.

Do you do masonry work outside Chino?

Yes. We're based in Chino and work in the cities around it, including Chino Hills, Ontario, Pomona and the others on our city pages. If you're nearby and don't see your city listed, give us a call and ask.
